Objective: The purpose of this effort was a progressive validation of available methods used to predict crack growth under complex loading. Accurately predicting overload induced retardation effects on crack growth rate is an essential step towards the full incorporation of engineered residuals (and related life improvements) into analysis required to certify structural integrity of aircraft. The test configurations and data presented were originally used for the validation of Boeing LifeWorks Contact Stress Model which predicts crack closure, retardation, acceleration and other load interaction effects. The challenge included 2 prediction tasks using different spectra. It was up to the participant to include one or both tasks in their submission.
